The Burkes are “All In” for DuPage

March 13, 2026

For Chris and Susan Burke, there’s more to giving back than generosity—it’s about creating a lasting impact. The couple met at Purdue University and later made their home in DuPage County, raising their family while dedicating themselves to community service.

Susan Burke was the first to get involved locally, spending more than a decade with Illinois Projects for Special Needs Children, supporting programs for children with special needs across the state. As Founder and CEO of Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd., Chris built a career in engineering and education while pursuing a lifelong passion for conservation. His commitment to conservation began in childhood with creek cleanups and has continued through decades of work in water resources and environmental advocacy. Together, Chris and Susan have supported numerous local organizations including The Conservation Foundation, The Morton Arboretum, and College of DuPage Foundation, where Chris has served as a board member.

The Burkes’ first introduction to DuPage Foundation came nearly 20 years ago. Over time, their support has deepened as they have witnessed the Foundation’s profound impact on our community. “Instead of writing checks to 20 different organizations, we can support them all through the Foundation’s reach,” said Chris.

For the Burkes, what matters most is long-term support. “An endowment ensures that needs are met not just today, but for generations to come,” said Chris. “Having long-term stability allows organizations to make stronger plans that help more people. Knowing that whatever part we play will help address shortages and required funding for future generations—that’s what it’s all about.”

The Burkes share their story to spark generosity and motivate others to get involved. “Even small contributions, when combined with others, can transform lives,” said Susan. Through this future-focused approach, the Burkes are “All In,” helping ensure that DuPage County organizations have the resources to keep thriving, supporting both current needs and those yet to come.

“The Foundation benefits so many organizations, and their model of establishing lasting community endowments is so important for the region.” – Chris Burke
